• Even after 15 years, the Centre has not issued the official gazette notification required to implement the KWDT-II award.

• The Krishna River is a major source of water for Karnataka, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, and Telangana.
• Water allocation disputes among these states led to the formation of multiple tribunals over the decades.
2. Krishna Water Disputes Tribunal-II (KWDT-II)
• Formed under the chairmanship of Justice Brijesh Kumar in 2004.
• The tribunal allocated 173 TMC of water to Karnataka.
• Out of this, 130 TMC was meant for the Upper Krishna Project-III (UKP-III).

1. Introduction
• The Krishna River is a major interstate river flowing through Maharashtra, Karnataka, Telangana, and Andhra Pradesh.
• Water-sharing disputes among these states led to the formation of Krishna Water Disputes Tribunals (KWDT) under the Inter-State River Water Disputes Act, 1956.
2. Krishna Water Disputes Tribunal-I (KWDT-I)
• Established: 1969 under Justice R.S. Bachawat.
• Award: Given in 1976, allocating 560 TMC to Maharashtra, 700 TMC to Karnataka, and 800 TMC to Andhra Pradesh.
• Review Clause: Allowed for revision after May 31, 2000.
3. Krishna Water Disputes Tribunal-II (KWDT-II)
• Established: 2004 under Justice Brijesh Kumar.
• Final Award: Delivered in 2010, allocating 81 TMC to Maharashtra, 177 TMC to Karnataka, and 190 TMC to Andhra Pradesh.
4. Recent Developments
• Bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh (2014): Telangana demanded a separate allocation, leading to fresh disputes.
