Background of Regional Imbalance and Nanjundappa Committee:
Constitution of the Committee:https://www.iasjnana.com/
The High-Power Committee was established by the Karnataka government under the chairmanship of Dr. D. N. Nanjundappa over two decades ago.
The primary objective was to address the issue of regional imbalance in the state.
Findings of the 2002 Report:
Out of 175 taluks (sub-districts) in Karnataka at that time, 114 were classified as backward.
These backward taluks were further categorized:
39 Most Backward Talukshttps://www.iasjnana.com/
40 More Backward Taluks
35 Backward Taluks
Among the “most backward” taluks, 21 were located in the Kalyana Karnataka Region (formerly Hyderabad-Karnataka Region), highlighting significant underdevelopment in this area.
The Govind Rao Committee will:
Study the implementation of the Dr. D. N. Nanjundappa Committee Report.
Analyze how many taluks have developed and how many remain backward.
ยงPropose actionable steps for developing still-backward regions.
The committee has been given six months to submit its findings.
Focus on Kalyana Karnataka Region:
This region remains a priority due to its historical and socio-economic backwardness, as identified in the Nanjundappa Report.
